Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for Small Business

A client asked me this week about SEO for her new Weebly website.  I explained that I am no expert in SEO (do you know of one?) but these were the key things I thought needed attention:

- embed keywords into your website content
- complete metadata fields in back end of your website
- have links to and from your website to other relevant websites and social media sites
- sign up to Google webmaster tools and register your website site map
- label photographs and video with relevant names
- encourage return visits to your website via blog and social media
- advertise your website on all other marketing materials

You may be able to add some SEO tips that you have undertaken for your business?

Hi all, having said I was "no expert on SEO" I am right now attending a workshop on how to choose a web developer and SEO specialist. Guess what? The tips I have put here are spot on!! There is no magic in SEO - it's just a matter of methodically implementing these actions, keeping your website relevant to your audience, constantly improve functionality to improve user experience and keep your content fresh with new images, blog or news page.

You left one of the most important things: data tracking. You have to know if your efforts are paying off so there needs to be tracking of visitors.

You left one of the most important things: data tracking. You have to know if your efforts are paying off so there needs to be tracking of visitors.

And that data must be cleaned to remove bot and spam traffic etc.

Re embedding keywords into the content, be sure to mention not over doing it as this can trigger a penalty. And your main keyword should be in your title and h1 tags to learn the search engines know what the site/page is about primarily.
